School Feeding Program

During droughts children are often pulled out of school by their parents.  Our school feeding program is providing close to 1500 children in four wards in Binga district with meals, keeping them in school and keeping them safe.

The number of severely food insecure people in Zimbabwe 2019/2020 where nearly 2.4 million people are in Crisis of Emergency, have the highest numbers of food insecure people in Binga district.  However, with the drought more needed to be done as the emergency was causing children to drop out of school.  In addition, the COVID-19 crisis also limited student’s access to school-based meals and has already left too many children hungry

We work with officers from the Ministry of Primary and Secondary education, as well as the Ministry of Health and Child Care in supplying E’Pap porridge.

Whilst schools are closed, we supply E’Pap porridge in non-congregate settings.  E’Pap It is an instant porridge and is made from wholegrain maize and soya beans.

Vital vitamins are added into the mixture which contains the 24 micronutrients and four macronutrients which maximise absorption and bio-efficacy in the human body.

As part of the program, volunteers from the community help with preparing the school meals.
