Child Protection Care & Development

We support safe and secure childhoods

We are deeply committed to realizing children’s rights as enshrined in the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Grassroots efforts to strengthening child protection systems

Ntengwe for Community Development believes that every child deserves a childhood free from violence, and grow up in a safe, peaceful, nurturing and enabling environment where they can fully exercise their rights.

Since the adoption of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989, Article 12 – the provision that children have a right to express their views and have them take seriously in accordance with their age and maturity – we are making progress.

We work with our communities by building a safety net of caring people to protect children.  We use bottom-up approaches from grassroots level upward, support community action, build on existing community strengths, and stimulate community-government collaboration to prevent harm, and ensure that those who are harmed receive the help they need to recover.  We do this by:

  • Working with governments to develop and implement protective policies for children;
  • Supporting relevant duty bearers like child protection committees, social workers, clinic staff, teachers, and police (victim friendly units), to effectively implement and coordinate appropriate case management services for children;
  • Strengthen families and caregivers with skills and knowledge to care for and protect children;
  • Promote child participation in child protection; and
  • Use evidence-based practices to work toward the best possible outcomes for children and their families.

By 2030, as part of the Sustainable Development Gaols, Ntengwe for Community Development is committed to ensuring that violence and abuse against children is no longer tolerated.
